Concrete Cowboys: MUSIC

Easy (Click For Lyrics/Story)

(Concrete Cowboys)
Travis Dow
I wanted to write something with what I call the "ZZ Top" beat, that heartbeat-style, bluesy bass line.
In complete ignorance of the fact that you're supposed to make your celebrity references current, I put Lauren Bacall in there, because that's really what I imagine her voice sounding like, and no one else sounds like Bacall. Gotta be the first time since "Key Largo" in the 70's that she's made it into a song.
With the flanged guitar in the verses, I was trying to channel Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me". As usual, it didn't work, but maybe we came up with something new there.
Chad belted it out with some great growls, and Ed's one and only drum solo makes it, if you ask me.
-T.D.
I was lowdown, she was tall
I was watchin' the room from up against the wall
From the shadows overhead
With a voice like Lauren Bacall, she said

"Don't be afraid, I won't bite
I've got a room up above this bar tonight
Yeah, it's a long, sad story
But there's a happy ending, boy, don't you worry"

Chorus:
Don't call her easy, she's a special case
But on a lonely night she gets to that place
Where nothin' matters but a memory gettin' erased
Don't call that easy

She was an angel done wrong
Just my luck she'd been alone too long
I guess it pays to be kind
To a girl with revenge on her mind

Now it's over and daylight
When I came to, she was outta sight
Down in the bar there's talk
They think that woman's been around the block
