Never Satisfied (Click For Lyrics/Story)
(Concrete Cowboys)
Written by Travis Dow
I can't take a whole lot of credit for this one, as it seemed to fly at me from some other place in about 10 minutes time. Once I got a hold of it, though, I wanted to be able to put this message out there without having a particular point of view about it. I didn't want the singer of this song to tell you whether he thinks never being satisfied is a good or a bad thing, in other words. Mainly because I don't know, myself. It just IS. This is also one of several songs that find a person running away from what you might call "normal" life. When I was younger those songs all involved finding something great. Now it's a bit muddier.
Katie's fiddle and Al's crazy solo make this recording, in my opinion.

The sun is fallin’ fast and there ain’t nothin’ in the past you care to save
A rearview full of blacktop and a windshield full of sky that’s turnin’ gray
Tonight she’ll wonder why you don’t come home
And you’ll be wonderin’ why it took so long
There’s a road sign up ahead that says population 1500 souls
And you wonder just how many stare that highway down and wonder where it goes
Tonight you find yourself out on the run
But you can bet you’re not the only one
Chorus:
‘Cause the whole world’s thinkin’ ‘bout where they’d rather be
Nobody’s ever satisfied with what they have or where they lie
And the whole world’s reachin’ out for somethin’ they can’t see
Nobody’s ever satisfied, never satisfied
Point the wheels toward California, man, the good life must be out there on the coast
You’ve heard so many stories, they can’t all be wrong, just twenty miles to go
The highway’s jammed in both directions now
For all those dreamers streamin’ in there’s just as many getting out
Repeat Chorus
